The Resources for Africa Coal & Energy Transition Day will take place on 27 July at the Johannesburg Country Club as well as online. This year’s event focuses on the Just Transition, the future of coal and the move towards greener energy solutions.

The high-level gathering will bring together all the key stakeholders involved in the coal and energy transition including government, industry, coal producers, alternative energy providers, investors, funders and independent experts.

Some of the key discussions to take place this year include:

  • Discussions with the major coal producers on their current strategies in light of global and local developments
  • The practical reality of meeting global energy needs while moving away from hydrocarbons
  • Advances in Clean Coal Technologies (CCTs), what is currently being developed and who is using them commercially
  • What actions the industry needs to take to begin the transition away from coal and what collaboration and partnerships are being formed
  • How Transnet is working with coal producers and other private industry stakeholders to resolve transportation and infrastructure challenges
  • How Eskom is planning to repurpose its power stations, transition away from coal and what other energy sources are being considered
  • The energy sources that are likely to feature in Southern Africa’s energy transition – gas, nuclear, hydro, renewables, green hydrogen
  • The potential contribution of renewables to the energy mix in Southern Africa
  • The funding sources that are available for alternative energy projects and for organisations to transition to cleaner energy sources
  • And more…

Details of the confirmed speakers and the programme will be released very soon. In the meantime, more information on the Coal & Energy Transition Day can be found on the African Mining Online Up Coming Events Page.
