Junior Indaba 2023

The programme for the 9th edition of the annual Junior Indaba has been announced. Taking place on 6 and 7 June 2023 at the Country Club Johannesburg, Auckland Park, this event promises informative and frank discussions on the exploration and junior mining sectors in South Africa and elsewhere in Africa.

Some of the highlights of this year’s programme include:

  • A keynote address by Roger Baxter, outgoing CEO of the Minerals Council South Africa, on what it will take for junior mining in South Africa to succeed.
  • Jacob Mbele, DG at the DMRE, will outline what is needed to create a conducive policy and regulatory framework for junior miners in SA.
  • Mosa Mabuza, CEO at the Council for Geoscience, will answer the critical question: do we have the geological endowment to support junior mining in South Africa?
  • Junior miners already operating in SA and beyond will give their perspectives on what it takes to succeed in the junior mining sector, including CEOs from Afrimat, Orion Minerals, Platinum Group Metals, Copper 360, Andrada Mining, Osino Resources and Botswana Diamonds.
  • Patrycja Kula-Verster, Primary Markets: Business Development manager at the JSE, will speak to the all-important subject of raising finance for juniors and reveal new opportunities for juniors to access capital via the JSE.
  • Robin Griffin, vice president, SME M&M Markets at Wood Mackenzie, will address the subject of commodity prices, how they are faring in 2023 and what this will mean for juniors.
  • Louis Nel, CEO at Manganese Metal Company (MMC), will discuss the battery hype and whether miners should go beyond mining.
  • Alistair Hodgkinson, COO at DRA Global, will discuss how they are partnering with junior miners to build world-class mines.

In addition, detailed showcase sessions from junior miners with projects in several African countries, including South Africa, Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Côte d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso and Tanzania will include:
