Resources 4 Africa, the organiser of the Joburg Indaba, has released the agenda for the 7th edition of the 2024 PGMs Industry Day, taking place on Wednesday 10 April 2024 at the Country Club Johannesburg, Auckland Park. Key players, including PGMs producers, end users, industry analysts and investors will discuss the repositioning of PGMs for a sustainable future.

Chaired by Bernard Swanepoel, this one-day event will include:

  • High level strategic conversations with PGMs CEOs, including their views on operating under the current challenging market environment and price volatility:
    • Paul Dunne, CEO, Northam Platinum
    • Neal Froneman, CEO, Sibanye-Stillwater
    • Craig Miller, CEO, Anglo American Platinum
    • Alex Mhembere, CEO, Zimplats
    • Nico Muller, CEO, Impala Platinum
  • An address by Margery Ryan, PGM advocacy manager, Johnson Matthey, on the role of PGMs in a clean energy future.
  • A discussion on the opportunities and risks of opening a new PGMs mine, with Marna Cloete, president, Ivanhoe Mines; Schalk Engelbrecht, finance executive, Platinum Group Metals; Thando Mkatshana, chief executive, ARM Platinum, and Roger Baxter, non-executive chairman, Southern Palladium, chaired by James Smith, CEO and MD, DRA Global.
  • Anton Smalberger, senior manager marketing New Energy Business Development, Toyota SA; Gina Handley, head of product marketing and volume planning, Volkswagen Group South Africa and Bernhard Fuchs, senior vice-president Precious Metals Management, Umicore, will discuss the global outlook for BEVS and FCEVs and the implications for PGMs, in conversation with Andries Rossouw, Energy, Utilities and Resources leader, PwC Africa.
  • A conversation in which applications will see demand growth for PGMs, with Kirsti Kuhn, general manager – Commercial, Heraeus Precious Metals; Tim Schlick, COO, Platinum Guild International Hong Kong Limited; Sifiso Sibiya, group executive, Refining & Marketing, Impala Platinum and Trevor Raymond, CEO, World Platinum Investment Council.
  • A discussion on the global outlook for PGMs, chaired by Wilma Swarts, director of PGM Research, Metals Focus with Henk de Hoop, CEO, SFA Oxford; Mzila Mthenjane, CEO, Minerals Council South Africa and Emma Townshend, executive: Corporate Affairs, Impala Platinum.
  • An investor panel including Catherine Cunningham, Equity analyst, CEEMEA Metals & Mining J.P. Morgan; Adrian Hammond, Mining Equities analyst, Standard Bank; SBG Securities, and Vusi Mpofu, Sector lead: Mining & Chemicals, Nedbank CIB who will discuss their perspectives on the PGMs industry given tough macroeconomic conditions and the basket price.
  • Jaco Prinsloo, CEO, Sylvania Platinum; Phoevos Pouroulis, CEO, Tharisa Minerals and Grant Stuart, Global Head of Recycling, Sibanye-Stillwater will discuss the role of PGMs recycling in a circular economy.

The PGMs Industry Day will be followed by the 4th edition of the Hydrogen Economy Discussion on 11 April 2024 at the same venue.
