Pinpoint Stewards, a woman owned conference and training company, will be hosting the Annual Women & Leadership Conference taking place on 28 & 29 August, NH Collection Hotel, Sandton – one of the biggest gatherings of women in South African Mining.
The organisers are driven to profile a new panel of speakers each year to recognise and exhibit the future leadership talent in mining. Speakers at this year’s conference include the DMRE and 12 Industry speakers from Palabora Mining Company, Foskor Pty Ltd, Ivanplats, Harmony Gold Mining Company Ltd, Goldfields, Quantum Leap Smart Engineering, Impala Platinum Ltd, Anglo American, Kumba Iron Ore and Thungela Resources.
The conference will also include a panel discussion focussing on the composition of women in mining committees to ensure women receive the needed support to not only enter a career in mining but adapt, stay and thrive. The panel will be moderated by WiMSA who is also one of the beneficiaries, selected by Pinpoint Stewards, in support of their long-standing relationship and synergies to develop and mentor women in mining.
“They say nothing worth fighting for is easy, and with a strong focus on organising quality events with impactful speakers and an engaging agenda, we are starting to see record-breaking in-person attendance for this year’s conference,” says Sudhira Sewsunker, co-owner, Pinpoint Stewards. “Women coming to the conference each year share how refreshing it is to meet peers from different organisations who face the same challenges, but more importantly, engage on how they have overcome these obstacles to succeed in their careers.” “Life-changing” and “taking accountability for your work output” are two of the most repeated insights after the conference, and that is what we work towards,” Sewsunker adds.
The organisers are of the opinion that the winning recipe for a strategic conference is to “combine talks with actionable outcomes and networking opportunities.” Knowing that the answers don’t only come from the podium, time is allocated for all to participate during open forums, panels and Q & A sessions.
The conference will also host a business networking high-tea after day one and the best fun or sun hat will walk away with a Sandton shopping voucher. “We realise that women at mines are sometimes in remote areas so what better way to end a two-day conference than shopping in Santon?” says Sewsunker.
